GRAND ISLAND, Neb (KSNB) — Hope Harbor received a $1.25 million grant from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sanchez Bezos to expand services for homeless individuals and families in Central Nebraska.

The Grand Island nonprofit said it will use the funds to carry out its mission of addressing homelessness in the region. It will also help advance Lighthouse Apartments, Central Nebraska’s first permanent supportive housing project, moving it closer to opening its doors.

The grant represents the largest gift Hope Harbor has ever received.

“We will address some of the needs going on in our shelter. As well as providing housing,” Liz Mayfield, executive director for Hope Harbor said.
