DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. (KOLO) - Two suspects are facing charges after a traffic stop in Douglas County led to the recovery of more than $507,000 worth of stolen checks.

A man and woman from southern California were arrested in Gardnerville on Apr. 15, 2024. Inside the vehicle, deputies say they found a large amount of mail that had been stolen from U.S. Post Office mailboxes across northern Nevada. Many of the pieces of mail contained personal checks addressed to the Internal Revenue Service. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed holds on both suspects due to their undocumented status.
