LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Multiple inches of snow hit the Derby City overnight, which may have some thinking about making a trip to their nearest sledding hill.
An enjoyable tradition for families, Louisville Parks and Recreation said its designated sledding hills are open during park hours (6 a.m. to 11 p.m.) on days when snow accumulation reaches 2 to 3 inches. The department said as long as adequate snow coverage is maintained, hills will be open for recreational use.
Park users should avoid sledding when hills are closed or not properly covered with snow, as sledding on slopes that lack appropriate snow depth will cause turf damage. Louisville Parks and Recreation said a good rule of thumb is if blades of grass can be seen poking through the snow cover, it's not deep enough to sled safely.
