There’s still hope for commuters to finally ride the Eglinton Crosstown LRT this year, Ontario’s transportation minister told reporters on Tuesday.

“There is a possibility,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria at an unrelated press conference, when asked if the long-awaited light-rail line would open before the end of the year. “We’re going to work with our partners at the TTC to determine that.”

Sarkaria noted that the Crosstown could open on a faster timeline than the Finch West LRT — scheduled to open Sunday — because operator training for Eglinton has been ongoing for nearly a year.

Sarkaria was asked if the line could be open in two weeks: “There’s a possibility, absolutely,” he said.

But the transportation minister did not give a date as to when the line might open.
