A stretch of the A14 has been closed near to the Orwell Bridge following reports of a crash.
National Highways has said the westbound carriageway of the major route has been closed at the Nacton turn-off.
A spokesman for National Highways said there are currently hour-long delays as a result of the incident.
Drivers are currently being diverted off at the exit slip and back on at the entry slip.
Traffic cameras show bumper-to-bumper traffic in the westbound carriageway.
Queues are currently building back to the Seven Hills Interchange.
The incident is also causing delays around the town, with many major roads heavily congested.
