PORTLAND, Ore. — Vibra Specialty Hospital plans to close Oregon’s only long-term acute care hospital in Portland, according to a notice filed Monday with the state.

In the WARN notice, the company said it will permanently close the hospital on Northeast Hancock Street and lay off 310 workers on Feb. 1, 2026. The decision is “due to ongoing financial challenges,” Vibra CEO Michael Kerr said in the notice, which has made it “unsustainable to continue operations” at the hospital.

On Friday, days before the notice was filed, a KGW viewer sent a photo of a large pile of clear trash bags that appeared to contain medical waste stacked near a dumpster outside the Northeast Portland hospital. However, Vibra has not confirmed that information to KGW.
