BALTIMORE — The Chesapeake Executive Council on Tuesday approved a revised Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement , marking the next phase of the multi-state effort to restore the nation’s largest estuary.

The update follows three years of work to reassess goals in the 2014 agreement, many of which targeted 2025 for completion. The new agreement establishes four goals — thriving habitats, fisheries, and wildlife; clean water; healthy landscapes; and engaged communities — along with 21 outcomes. Officials said the plan reflects the latest science, emphasizes conservation, and aims for measurable, time-bound targets.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore said the agreement will strengthen waterways and support industries tied to the bay, calling it a commitment “to the next generations.”
