MINNEAPOLIS — Twin Cities leaders spoke out against the Trump administration Tuesday after The New York Times reported federal officials are planning an alleged "crackdown" on Somali immigration in Minnesota.
A source familiar with the alleged operation told The Times the plan will target dozens of Somali immigrants throughout the Twin Cities region. According to public data, Minnesota holds the largest population of Somali people in the United States.
Following the report, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Council Member Jamal Osman, Police Chief Brian O'Hara and St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter held a press conference from Minneapolis City Hall to address the claims.
