PORTLAND, Ore. — The Nordstrom Rack store in downtown Portland will permanently close at the end of January, according to a layoff notice filed by the company.

The closure will affect 37 employees at the discount store, the company said in its filing.

"Certain employees will be offered the opportunity to transfer to other Nordstrom locations," said Nordstrom's HR director Mikayla Lewis in the filing. "We have not yet determined who will be offered these opportunities."

The store's closure is another blow to Portland's core, where downtown foot traffic has still yet to recover to pre-pandemic levels.

Nordstrom Rack operates as an off-price discount store. There are other Nordstrom Rack locations in Northeast Portland, Hillsboro, Beaverton and Clackamas.
