Penn State is going to have to fight for its top head coaching target.

BYU’s Kalani Sitake is being pursued by Penn State. But the Cougars are “working hard” to keep Sitake, according to a Tuesday report from CBS Sports .

“There’s some optimism at the moment on the BYU side that they may be able to keep him,” CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz wrote. “Fluid situation.”

On Monday night, news broke that Sitake is Penn State and athletic director Pat Kraft’s top option to replace James Franklin at the helm of the Nittany Lions.

But shortly after that, it became clear that BYU was going to put up a fight. Crumbl co-founder and CEO Jason McGowan, a Cougars fan and donor, took to X and shared that he is going to do his part to keep Sitake as BYU’s head coach.
