ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Since it was established in 1993, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has donated proceeds from the state’s various lotteries to educational programs — and those contributions recently reached the $30 billion mark.
The money funds Georgia’s pre-k program, the Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally (HOPE) Scholarship and other grants that help students attend in-state colleges. To date, more than 2 million students have received a HOPE scholarship, while another 2 million have enrolled in the pre-kindergarten program.
During the University of Georgia-Georgia Tech rivalry game at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium last Friday, Gov. Brian Kemp and the presidents of both universities were presented a ceremonial $30 billion check by officials from the Georgia Lottery
