ANN ARBOR, MI — Letting grass grow over 12 inches tall on private property is no longer illegal in Ann Arbor, but not every City Council member thinks that’s a good thing.
Council voted 8-1 Monday night, Dec. 1, to give final approval to vegetation ordinance changes , eliminating a city rule that vegetation other than trees and shrubs on private property can’t be taller than 12 inches outside of a cultivated bed or planned natural landscape.
Mayor Pro Tem Travis Radina, D-3rd Ward, cast the lone dissenting vote.
“I cannot support removing a tool the city has to take action on blighted or vacant properties and absentee landlords who are neglecting their properties,” he said.
