A Tyneside council has approved a simpler council tax reduction scheme for many claimants. The new council tax relief bands will shield the most vulnerable families and individuals depending on their weekly income.

North Tyneside councillors unanimously approved a new council tax reduction scheme for working age claimants, which according to local authority leaders will be simpler to understand and save administration costs. Some residents can have up to 100% of their council tax waived, depending on where the new banded system they sit.
