MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Jackson Hopper , the man accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend, Ellie Young, at Shelby Farms , is scheduled to go on trial next year. The trial is set to begin on April 13, 2026.
Hopper was originally slated to be tried on February 9, 2026 . It’s unclear at this time why the date changed.
Hopper faces charges of first-degree murder. Investigators allege he shot and killed Young in 2024 as she sat in her car following a breast cancer walk. Prosecutors have stated they are seeking the death penalty in this case.
In addition to the murder charge, Hopper also faces charges in Tipton and Dyer Counties related to a high-speed chase that occurred after the shooting.
Prosecutors are seeking a life sentence for Hopper.
