STEPHENSON COUNTY, Ill. — Locals are being invited to a virtual meeting on proposed improvements to a stretch of US 20 in Stephenson County.
The Illinois Department of Transportation is hosting a virtual public meeting for proposed improvements to US 20 between Lena and Freeport. The meeting is part of a study to improve safety conditions and infrastructure to 4.7 miles of US 20 between Rees Road and Flansburg Road.
The study will assess patching, resurfacing, and replacing crossroad culverts at different locations, which were described by IDOT as "undersized and deteriorating."
IDOT is considering adding centerline and shoulder rumble strips, inserting advanced warning signs, and evaluating short passing zones to help prevent crashes.
The project would also use land from Wayside Park,
