Le Bal des Débutantes returned to Paris this year, once again hosting a cohort of promising young women from around the globe.

The ultra-exclusive, invite-only event was originally launched in 1958 and then revived by Ophélie Renouard in 1992. Since then, Le Bal has earned its reputation as one of the glitziest, most glamorous gatherings for famous families.

On Saturday, Nov. 29, Ruby Kemper — whose late grandfather Kirk Kerkorian owned MGM Studios — joined 19 debutantes to enjoy a night in custom couture at the Hotel Shangri-La. The Cornell University student, 20, wore a Chrome Hearts gown and glittering Louboutin heels, which she tells PEOPLE paid homage to her "L.A. roots."
