Twin Cities officials are standing by the Somali community amid a report that it's being targeted by a federal immigration operation that's expected to begin this week.

The mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul held a press conference on Tuesday to address the impending Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity, following increasingly inflammatory remarks by President Donald Trump about Somalis in the Twin Cities.

"To our Somali community, we love you and we stand with you," Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said.

The New York Times reports that the ICE effort will focus on local Somalis with final deportation orders and involve around 100 federal agents, officers and other officials.
