BENSONHURST — THE PHYSICAL CONDITION OF A CONTROVERSIAL PROPOSED HOMELESS SHELTER faces certain irregularities that two elected officials are flagging for the city’s attention. Assemblymember William Colton, D-47, and City Councilmember Susan Zhuang, D-43, are demanding that city officials reevaluate the demolition permit that was granted on Nov. 14 for 2501 86th St.

Residents have been battling the proposed homeless shelter for over two years. The two elected officials — in a letter to the mayor, the buildings commissioner, the Brooklyn district attorney and the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York — point out the permit was issued in a way that bypassed certain key requirements. These include utility shutoffs, sewer capping, rodent control, notifications to neighbors
