PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Two elderly people had to be helped from their home after a bedroom caught fire early Tuesday morning.

The Peoria Fire Department was called to a building on Northeast Madison around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday.

There, they found moderate smoke conditions on the first floor of the home.

The fire was quickly put out, and firefighters quickly removed multiple clothes linens outside to be put out.

One dog and two cats were removed from the home.

Animal Welfare also responded, safely securing six more felines inside the home.

One woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

It was determined that faulty electrical equipment caused the fire.

Damage is estimated at approximately $25,000.
