Many people turn to Facebook Marketplace for a good deal or to make some quick cash.
But police say using social media to buy and sell items could make you vulnerable to criminals.
Payment fraud, shipping scams, product scams, even rental scams: These are some of the most common type of scams on Facebook Marketplace.
Chattanooga Police Sgt. Kendon Massengale oversees the Robbery and Fraud Unit and said scams on Facebook Marketplace are some of the hardest to solve.
"It kind of comes down to that person doing their due diligence ahead of time to protect themselves because they're extremely hard to prosecute," he said.
Before you even purchase an item off Facebook Marketplace, police say check out the person's profile.
