When NHL players head over to Italy to compete in the Winter Olympics this season, they might have to play on a smaller ice surface.
Uncertainty over the Olympic arena in Milan has been mounting with the Games set to open in a little over two months. Construction on the facility is still underway, and there is no word on when the arena will be ready.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has reported that the NHL and NHLPA are giving Olympic organizers until the end of the month they sound the alarm. When the facility is ready, there is a chance that the actual ice surface may fall short of the NHL’s dimensions.
Canadian Olympic hockey assistant coach Pete DeBoer revealed this on Monday’s edition of Kyper and Bourne .
