A 26-year-old hunter who was shot Tuesday morning, prompting a complex rescue from a remote section of woods in Juniata County, has died from his injuries.
The man was with a hunting party of 24 people conducting a deer drive a mile or two off Vincent Tram Road in Milford Township, according to Lt. Amy Nabozny of the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
Nabozny said the 26-year-old was helping drive deer toward the “standers,” hunters waiting for game to appear before shooting.
About 100 to 200 yards into the drive, a buck jumped up and went through the line of drivers.
“Two members of the hunting party shot at the buck and one struck the victim in the right hip as he was in direct line of fire,” Nabozny said.
