Hardly any fentanyl was seized in Quebec during a months-long national crackdown, but the province took the lead in terms of chemicals used to make drugs.
The results of the National Fentanyl Sprint 2.0 were released Tuesday, with just 0.01 per cent of the 386 kg of fentanyl seized in Canada between May and October found in Quebec specifically, though larger amounts of other illicit substances were also seized in the province — including “precursor chemicals” used to make them.
The operation — carried out by the Canadian Integrated Response to Organized Crime (CIROC) — aimed to “disrupt organized crime groups, their networks, enablers and commodities,” Bonnie Ferguson, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) assistant commissioner, said during a morning media briefing.
