Just a day after returning to the federal cabinet and taking over the portfolio for official languages, Marc Miller said he is “fed up” with the debate over the decline of French in remarks that drew immediate backlash from Quebec Premier François Legault.
“As a Quebecer, I’m pretty fed up with this debate, which is generally about identity and elections,” Miller told reporters in Ottawa.
He added that there is “a decline in some respects” in Quebec, particularly as a language spoken at home and at work.
The Montreal MP, who has represented the riding of Ville-Marie—Le Sud-Ouest—Île-des-Soeurs since 2015, returned back to cabinet on Monday as minister of culture and Canadian identity, along with the official language file. He replaced Steven Guilbeault, who resigned last week over Ottaw
