NEELYVILLE, Mo. (WSIL) -- Authorities responded to a report of a domestic violence incident early Wednesday morning on Old 67 Highway in Neelyville.

The Butler County Sheriff's Department said they received several 911 calls around 2:25 a.m. without any response from the caller. Eventually, a whispering call came in, and the sheriff's office said the dispatcher recognized the voice due to previous domestic incidents involving the caller.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs said deputies arrived at the scene to find an armed suspect holding a knife to the throat of the reporting party. Dobbs said law enforcement then fired shots as the suspect used the victim as a human shield.
