An election protest alleging that the Godwin town clerk unlawfully influenced voters in the recent general election was dismissed Dec. 2 by the Cumberland County Board of Elections.

Following a hearing that included sworn testimony from the accused and the accuser, the county Board of Elections voted unanimously to dismiss the protest filed by Dennis Smith Sr., who lost his bid for a seat on the Godwin Board of Commissioners. Smith alleged that Jacqueline Cooper-Kelley , Godwin's town clerk, "was unlawfully influencing and attempting to influence voters, telling them which candidate to vote for.”
