Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández was sentenced to 45 years in prison in June 2024 after being arrested at the request of the U.S government in February 2022, weeks after handing over power to current President Xiomara Castro. Hernández was released from prison on Tuesday after being pardoned by President Donald Trump.
