MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reported on Tuesday the COLSAC III, commonly known as the Merrimac ferry, has closed for the season.

According to WisDOT, the ferry halted service on November 29 due to winter weather conditions. The conditions did not improve enough to reopen and now crews will begin offseason maintenance, WisDOT stated.

During the 2025 season, the ferry made 39,734 crossings carrying a total of 208,823 vehicles, bicycles and people.

The car ferry serves WIS 113 across the Wisconsin River between Columbia and Sauk County. During the season, it is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
