BARNSTABLE, Mass. —
A Hyannis, Massachusetts, trading card store is one of the latest businesses across the state to be burglarized and was robbed of thousands of dollars of merchandise.
A masked thief broke into Vanguard Gaming on Monday night while the store was closed, setting off the alarm and getting away with thousands worth of "Star Wars," "Magic: The Gathering" and Pokémon cards, store manager Rob Zeida said.
Zeida said the value of the cards has been skyrocketing, driven in part by the nostalgia of the millennial generation.
"This year is the 30th anniversary of Pokémon, so there's a lot of people who collected when they were 10 and now are 40, have jobs with disposable income," Zeida said. "The whole market has definitely gone up a ton in the last year."
