WHITE, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Multiple units responded on Sunday, Nov. 30, to a reported grain bin fire near SD Highway 30, west of White, SD.
Upon arrival, first responders found smoke emanating from the grain bin’s vents. The White Fire Department extinguished the fire located near the fan inlet at the base of the bin.
During the fire response, the corn inside the bin was removed. Preliminary information suggests that equipment failure may have started the fire near the bottom of the grain bin.
Around 6,000 bushels of corn were inside the bin at the time of the fire, valued at an estimated $20,000.
Fire crews and first responders remained on the scene for over an hour. The incident remains under investigation by the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
