Madonna publicly criticized President Donald Trump Monday after the U.S. State Department confirmed it would not commemorate World AIDS Day — an international observance held annually on December 1 since 1988.

State Department deputy spokesperson Tommy Pigott confirmed to CNN that the government would not mark the day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by HIV infection.

Pigott said the administration was “working directly with foreign governments to save lives and increase their responsibility and burden sharing.”

The 67-year-old singer responded with a lengthy Instagram post calling the decision “ridiculous,” “absurd” and “unthinkable.”
