LODI, Calif. —

Traffic remains slow-going Tuesday afternoon on a stretch of Interstate 5 in San Joaquin County near where a former Sacramento sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed by law enforcement following a chase .

Marvin Morales, 40, was suspected of fatally stabbing his 11-year-old son at an Elk Grove home in the 7600 block of Ferrell Way near Whitelock Parkway and Bruceville Road. He was later spotted by Sheriff Jim Cooper while driving southbound on I-5 at Pocket Road.

Tyler Eccles, a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol, said officers deployed a spike strip during a chase on the freeway, and Morales crashed afterward south of the Highway 12 junction.
