BISMARCK — The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction is gathering input on rules for how it will establish and govern public charter schools in the state, a move authorized during the 2025 legislative session.
But one lawmaker maintains the rules don’t go far enough and should be more specific about expectations for these new schools.
The department heard from a handful of people in person at a public hearing Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Capitol.
Lisa Grover, a policy expert with the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, helped draft the state’s new law.
“It is landmark legislation. It is legislation that will change the face of public education here in North Dakota,” she said during the hearing.
