BISMARCK — North Dakota Gov. Kelly Armstrong has ordered government agencies to fly the U.S. and state flags at half-staff in honor of a National Guard member who was fatally shot in Washington, D.C.
Armstrong asked that flags remain at half-staff for West Virginia Army National Guard Spc. Sarah Beckstrom until sunset on Thursday, Dec. 4. The 20-year-old woman died from her injuries after a Nov. 26 shooting in D.C.
A second National Guard member from West Virginia, U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, also was shot and critically injured. The suspect, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, has been charged with murder and other crimes. The Afghan national has pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to media reports.
