LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WVLT) - The U.S. Marshals Service took a man accused of assaulting a Georgia state trooper into custody Wednesday, according to a news release from the service.

It began on Nov. 25, the release said, when Jamie Carlos Thomas assaulted the trooper and left the state. That assault happened in Houston County, GA, the release said, on State Route 247 in Warner Robbins.

The Marshals’ Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force later started a fugitive case centered on Thomas, the release said, and on Dec. 3, investigators learned he may have been in East Tennessee.

The news prompted the Smoky Mountain Fugitive Task Force to respond to Spring City, TN and later a Loves Truck Stop in Lenoir City. According to the Marshals Service, Thomas was taken into custody at the truck stop.
