San Bernardino officials will continue to explore options to stem illegal fireworks use within city limits, though a citywide ban on all fireworks does not appear to be part of the strategy.
Currently, the city allows the use of “safe and sane” fireworks, those that do not launch into the air, except in an area north of the 210 Freeway. A proposal to ban such fireworks citywide failed at the City Council meeting Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Councilmembers Juan Figueroa and Treasure Ortiz supported enacting a one-year moratorium on all fireworks, an idea the council has been mulling since this summer, but the rest of the council was not persuaded.
