GRAND MARAIS, Minn. — The cash-strapped owner of Lutsen Lodge intentionally set fire to the historic building in an effort to collect more than $16 million from an insurance company, authorities allege.
Bryce James Campbell, 41, was arrested Wednesday, Dec. 3, near Detroit, Michigan, by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and local police following a 22-month investigation into the blaze that destroyed the North Shore landmark.
A criminal complaint had been filed under seal in State District Court in Grand Marais earlier that same day charging him with three counts of first-degree arson and one count of insurance fraud.
