The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has stopped receiving any coal-fired power, officials announced Thursday.

The city’s last remaining coal source was the Intermountain Power Project in Utah, which provided 11% of L.A.’s energy in 2024.

It’s a milestone in the city’s transition to 100 percent clean energy.
