The next city-owned parking lot will be built in downtown Kelowna or the South Pandosy neighborhood.
Municipal staff are still pondering which area has the highest priority, and will report back to council next year. The 2026 budget includes $450,000 for parkade planning, but actual construction will run into the many millions of dollars.
“We will not move forward with spending anything more than design money before we come back to council for (construction) approval,” Derek Edstrom, a divisional director, said Thursday during budget deliberations.
Coun. Mohini Singh wondered if council hadn’t, at some point in the past, proposed building a parkade in Rutland. But Edstrom said no, and Singh said she must have dreamed it.
“Dreaming again,” Mayor Tom Dyas said.
