ATHENS, Ala. - The Limestone County Sheriff's Office has announced a significant development in its Millstone Project, an initiative aimed at combating child exploitation.

This week, a jury returned a guilty verdict against Edgar Josue Castro-Juarez of Guatemala after a three-day trial. He was convicted of electronic solicitation of a child, traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act, and attempted human trafficking in the first degree. Sentencing is set for January 2026.

"I want to thank Covenant Rescue Group, Athens Police Department, our Special Operations Team, and the District Attorney’s Office for the countless hours they devoted to this investigation and prosecution," Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin said. "Limestone County will not tolerate those who prey on children."
