For decades, residents in one Rancho Cucamonga neighborhood have pulled out all the stops for Christmas , installing lights, themed decorations and animated figures to create a spectacle collectively referred to as the Thoroughbred Lights .

“We like entertaining the community, we like seeing everyone’s reactions to the lights,” said Brent Stoddard, who’s been elaborately decorating his home for 20 years, including the last nine that he’s lived on Thoroughbred Street. “We knew the community was like this when we moved in; it was in the disclosures when we bought the house.”

The event along parts of Thoroughbred Street, Jennet Street and Turquoise Avenue is not sponsored by the city, but officials have implemented rules intended to protect the neighborhood and the thousands who visit
