BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - While public defenders and district attorneys handle the legal aspects of criminal cases, victims assistance coordinators work behind the scenes to support those most affected by crime.
Lori White has worked in the 18th Judicial District Court (JDC) for over 18 years, spending the last five years helping victims and families as one of three victims assistance coordinators.
“When a case begins, the first thing we do is contact those victims or contact the victims families,” White said.
The coordinators, hired by Tony Clayton for the 18th JDC, serve as liaisons between court events and those involved with cases. They ensure victims and families stay informed throughout the legal process and have someone to lean on for questions and emotional support.
