Brace yourselves for a blast of arctic air that could set a record for low temperatures overnight into Friday in south-central Pennsylvania.

David Martin, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in State College , said a “very strong cold front” will be moving south across Pennsylvania and into the region on Thursday sending temperatures plummeting.

As it moves toward Harrisburg, the front will pull frigid air from Canada, where temperatures have been well below zero, he said.

It won’t be that bad in Pennsylvania, but Harrisburg could see temperatures nearing the Dec. 5, 1926, record low of 12 degrees.

The good news? Martin said there will be little wind on Friday so wind chills will not be a factor and temperatures could reach the upper 20s as the day progresses.
