CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Cuyahoga County probation officer faced garnishments, a judgment and a potentially costly civil lawsuit before being charged with bribery, documents show.
Andre Starks, 26, of Cleveland was charged after a woman under his supervision told prosecutors that Starks solicited a bribe to approve her request to leave town.
Starks said the past financial issues no longer affect him, noting the most recent garnishment ended in June.
“That doesn’t have anything to do with my financial situation,” Starks said of the prior issues.
Starks declined to comment on the bribery allegations specifically.
Last week, Starks met with a woman under his supervision outside the May Dugan Center, according to court records. Police said he asked her for a bribe in exchange for allowing her
