DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa Capitol Bureau) - Millions of Americans could lose federal assistance with their health insurance coverage on New Year’s Eve, potentially causing monthly premiums to double or triple in cost.

The Congressional Budget Office warns that 4.2 million Americans may drop their coverage because of the higher costs if Congress doesn’t extend the credits.

Iowa Representative Ashley Hinson said the power should go to patients. She said she supports replacing tax credits from the Affordable Care Act with a health savings account, as President Donald Trump has suggested.
