The Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) has issued an update on major changes for parents who claim Universal Credit as it unveils its 'historic child poverty strategy'. It's estimated 550,000 children will be lifted out of poverty by the Child Poverty Strategy launched on December 5.

It comes after Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced at her second autumn Budget last Wednesday that she was scrapping the two child benefit cap - a controversial limit that prevents parents from claiming Child Tax Credit or Universal Credit for more than two children. Announcing the move, which is estimated to cost £3bn a year by 2029-30, Reeves said her party did "not believe that the solution to a broken welfare system is to punish the most vulnerable children".
