CHARLESTOWN, Ind. —

Hoosiers in southern Indiana could soon share a congressional district with Indianapolis as a redistricting bill makes its way through the Indiana state legislature.

House Bill 1032 would combine Clark, Floyd, and other southern Indiana counties with a portion of Marion County.

The plan would split up Marion County into four parts, which is where Indianapolis sits.

House Republicans introduced the potential map on Monday.

Charlestown Mayor Treva Hodges expressed concern after seeing the map.

"My initial response was shock that anybody would think that it was a good idea to loop Clark County into a congressional district with the south side of Indianapolis," she said.

Hodges says this would negatively impact funding going to the region for critical infrastructure
