RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -By now pictures of porch pirates are all too common.

Captured by outside or ring cameras thieves look for packages left outside a home and take them.

These days with Christmas a click away, the holidays are a time when this crime has more of an opportunity than ever.

Reno Police Chief Katheryn Nance says fortunately there are ways to protect yourself.

“If you know your packages are going to arrive, please try and work with your neighbors,” says Chief Nance. “Hey, can we look for packages. You can help me look for packages, and I will help you look for yours’. Have them deliver to your place of employment, a trusted neighbor or maybe use a delivery pickup location. That is usually a service that can be offered.”
