Sources close to conversations around the Grieving Families Act say they are bracing for a fourth veto Thursday.
Those sources told Spectrum News 1 that they expect Gov. Kathy Hochul to once again give the bill a thumbs down after they say it was called up without any substantial outreach from Hochul’s office to spur the type of three-way negotiations which would suggest a path forward on a piece of legislation that the governor has long expressed concerns with.
The Grieving Families Act would among other things allow family members who lost loved ones to seek compensation for emotional grief and anguish, and a veto would not be a surprise considering it is largely the same piece of legislation that Hochul rejected one year ago without any major changes.
