The Oakland County Sheriff's Office has closed its administration building in Pontiac after the bacteria that causes Legionnaires' disease was found there, officials announced Thursday evening.

Building 38E, which houses the agency's administrative offices, was tested after a custodial employee who worked there was diagnosed with Legionnaires' disease, the Sheriff's Office said in a press release. Health experts say the disease can be deadly for people with certain risk factors.

Several water samples collected from the facility were tested and came back positive for Legionella bacteria, officials said.

Building 38E, at 1200 N. Telegraph Road, will be closed Friday and throughout the weekend, according to the release.

The building will remain closed "until it is deemed safe to reopen,"
